State police are in court to keep cash and a semitrailer, which they seized two weeks ago in connection with a heroin arrest.
Oscar H. Cruz, 50, Tucson, Ariz., was arrested March 28 on Interstate 39 near La Salle, after police said they pulled him over and found 3.7 pounds of heroin and $16,380 inside his semitrailer rig. The cash was in bundles of brown tape and rubber bands.
Last week, police filed forfeiture papers in court to keep the 1999 Freightliner rig and the cash. Cruz can fight the forfeiture.
Cruz remains in jail, needing $200,000 cash to make bond. He is represented by the public defender.
