AREA ROUNDUP: Ottawa, Fieldcrest, Paw Paw softball all fall

PONTIAC — The ICA Class 3A No. 2 state-rated Ottawa Lady Pirates were defeated 4-2 by the 12th-ranked Pontiac Lady Indians in a nonconference matchup Tuesday afternoon.

Sloan Gayan went 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple and a run batted in for Ottawa (23-5). Abby Bukantis (4 IP, 4 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 2 K) took the pitching loss. Gayan worked two scoreless, hitless innings, walking none while striking out five.

Olympia 3, Fieldcrest 2

At El Paso, the No. 6 seed Knights were edged by the second-seeded Spartans in the semifinals of the El Paso-Gridley Class 2A Regional.

Indian Creek 11, Paw Paw 1 (5 inn.)

At Shabbona, the No. 9 seed Lady Bulldogs fell to the seventh-seeded Timberwolves in the opening round of the Somonauk Class 1A Regional in a game resumed from Monday.


Herscher 8, Ottawa 2

At King Field on Monday, the Pirates dropped a nonconference game to the Tigers.

Wyatt Hill, Ryan Wendt, Logan Cheatham and James Lang accounted for the four Ottawa (13-15) hits. Jared Herzog had a run batted in. Ben Lundy (4 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 3 K) suffered the pitching loss.

Yorkville 9, Sandwich 1

At Yorkville on Monday, the Indians fell to the Foxes in a nonconference game.

Jake Pfaff, who took the pitching loss (5 2/3 IP, 9 R, 1 ER, 9 H, 0 BB, 2 K), had a home run for Sandwich (15-12).

Pirates 4th in NIB 12 Tourney

The Ottawa Pirates finished fourth out of eight schools in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Tournament and fifth overall for the season.

Ottawa posted a win in each flight: Jack Marvel at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-1 over Morris' Peter Smyk), Max Vargas at No. 2 singles (8-5 over DeKalb's Paul Anderson), Nate Meyer and Logan Olszewski at No. 1 doubles (6-0, 6-1 over La Salle-Peru's Jalen Depenbrock and Nate Newman), Andrew Hancock and Declan McGettigan at No. 2 doubles (5-7, 6-4 11-9 over Morris' Tyler Spezio and Blake Niewinski), and Jonah Sharp and Tyler Olesen at No. 3 doubles (2-6, 6-1, 11-9 over L-P's Ray Reed and Nolan Guthrie).

Ottawa 5, Sandwich 0

At Whitney Field in Ottawa, Andrew Shehorn was 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Vikings' offense during its win over Sandwich. Matt Ahearn drove in a pair of runs and also scored twice. Michael Bruner pitched a four-hit shutout, walking one batter and striking out 13.
