OTTAWA AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY
Ottawa American Legion Auxiliary met May 7. President Jean Firlik opened the meeting. The Americanism essay winners were present, with their parents, to read their essays and receive their monetary gifts. The topic was "What National Monument Means the Most to Me." Winners were:
Emily Zollars, senior, Marquette Academy, first place; Lydia Oker, freshman, Rosary High School, first place; Zoe Harris, eighth grade, first place; Drew Damoron, eighth grade, second place; and Alexis Johnson, eighth grade, third place, all of Shepherd Middle School.
Linda Dannenberger, teacher from Shepherd Middle School, Chuck Stanley, The Times, and Deb Perisot, essay judge were present for reading of the essays. The minutes and treasurer's reports were approved. The membership report shows 90 percent of goal and two new members.
Poppy Days will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, May 24, and 25. Five members attended the 12th District meeting in Sandwich. Three members will attend the second Division meeting in Lockport, Sunday, June 2. From Wednesday, July 11, through Saturday, July July 14, five members will attend the Department Convention in Springfield. Memorial Day Luncheon will be Monday, May 28. Members will cook the barbecue and the Auxiliary will serve at the Legion.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday, June 4.
