On Wednesday, authorities started investigating a newborn baby's death in rural Seneca.
A young female went to the emergency room at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa Wednesday morning, saying she had delivered a baby at her home north of Seneca, according to La Salle County Sheriff Tom Templeton. The female said the infant was at the house in a basement bathroom. Sheriff's deputies and Sheridan medics went to the home, where they found the baby dead in the bathroom, Templeton said.
The sheriff's office and state police crime scene technicians are investigating, with the La Salle County State's Attorney's Office helping. According to the coroner's office, an autopsy will be done Thursday.
Templeton said more information will be released Thursday.
