Talent, production shines throughout The Times All-Area Softball teams

It was another fantastic season for The Times-area softball teams and those clubs were fueled by a number of solid individual performances all year long. Whether it be at the plate or in the circle, there wasn’t a shortage of power or speed displayed by our 13 schools, with four capturing regional titles.

We are honored to present The Times 2018 Softball All-Area teams.

FIRST TEAM

Bri Avery

Senior, Sandwich

Avery, the Lady Indians center fielder and leadoff hitter, batted .480 with four doubles, six triples and a home run. She recorded 47 runs scored, with 14 RBIs and 31 stolen bases. Avery was named to the Interstate Eight North Division All-Conference team and was a unanimous Times First Teamer.

Jazzy Bowman

Senior, Ottawa

Bowman hit .432 from her No. 2 spot in the Lady Pirates order while playing a solid center field. She had four doubles, scored 37 runs, stole 22 bases and posted seven RBIs. Bowman was selected to the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference West Division All-Conference squad.

Taylor Bushman

Senior, Seneca

Bushman, The Times co-Player of the Year and unanimous Times First Team honoree, hit .551 as the Lady Irish leadoff batter and also excelled in center field. She had 11 doubles, scored 49 runs, drove in 22 tallies and stole 38 bases. Bushman was a Interstate Eight North Division All-Conference team as well as being selected to the Illinois Coaches Association Class 2A All-State First Team.

Jessica Christiansen

Senior, Somonauk

Christiansen batted .524 at the top of the Lady Bobcats lineup, scored 51 times, recorded 26 stolen bases and had 22 RBIs. She was an unanimous pick to the Little Ten All-Conference team and was named to the ICA Class 1A All-State Second Team.

Emily Cook

Senior, Earlville-Leland

Cook hit .440 with nine doubles, three triples and a pair of home runs for the Raiders. She also scored 26 runs and posted 37 RBIs. Cook was a repeat unanimous selection to the All-LTC squad and was a honoree on the ICA Class 1A Third Team.

Tayler Fall

Senior, Somonauk

Fall led the Lady Bobcats to both regional and sectional titles after batting an area-best .614 with six home runs and 61 RBIs. In the circle she was 23-5 with a 2.36 ERA and fanned 145 batters in 167 innings. Fall was a unanimous pick to the All-LTC team for the third straight season and was an ICA Class 1A First Team honoree.

Sloan Gayan

Junior, Ottawa

Gayan batted .479 with six home runs and 46 RBIs for the Lady Pirates. In the circle, she was 20-5 with an 1.24 ERA and struck out 226 batters in 158 2/3 innings. Gayan was named co-player of the year and First Team in the NIB 12 West Division, an ICA Class 3A First Team pick and a unanimous Times First Team selection.

Emily Owens

Senior, Marquette Academy

Owens hit .432 with 41 runs scored and 12 RBIs while handling the catching duties for the Lady Crusaders. She also had seven doubles and a home run. Owens was a Second Team pick to the Tri-County All-Conference team and was an ICA Class 1A Third Team honoree.

Lyda Robinson

Senior, Seneca

The slick fielding Lady Irish shortstop and Times co-Player of the Year, batted .504 with 51 runs scored, 22 RBIs and 27 stolen bases. She also had nine doubles and a trio of triples. Robinson was a I-8 North Division All-Conference pick, named to the ICA Class 2A First Team and was a Times unanimous First Team honoree.

Alyssa Schofield

Senior, Newark

The Lady Norsemen shortstop, Schofield hit .417 with 17 runs scored and 13 RBIs. She had 10 doubles, two triples and two home runs. Schofield was a unanimous selection to the All-LTC squad for the third consecutive season and was a ICA Class 1A Third Team honoree.

Allie Snook

Senior, Marquette Academy

The Lady Crusaders first baseman, Snook batted .568 with area-best 11 home runs and 50 RBIs. She also posted 12 doubles, two triples and scored 37 runs. Snook, a Times unanimous First Team pick, was named to the TCC All-Conference First Team as well as an ICA Class 1A Second Team selection.

Makenna Tkach

Junior, Marquette Academy

Tkach hit .392 from her No. 2 spot in the Lady Cru lineup, scored 34 runs and had 17 RBIs. In the circle, she went 19-6 with an 1.58 ERA and fanned 263 in 155 innings. Tkach was a TCC First Team pick, an ICA Class 1A Second Team honoree and a unanimous Times First Team selection.

Ellen Wheatland

Sophomore, Marquette Academy

The Lady Crusaders shortstop, Wheatland batted .434 with a home run and 31 RBIs. She also recorded 11 doubles, three triples and scored 21 runs. Wheatland was a First Team selection to the Tri-County All-Conference squad.

Kylie Winsor

Junior, Seneca

​Winsor hit .471 with 40 RBIs and 22 runs scored for the Lady Irish. She also eight doubles and a home run. Winsor was an I-8 All-Conference First Team honoree as well as an ICA Class 2A Third Team selection.

SECOND TEAM

Skyler Brue

Junior, Earlville-Leland

The Raiders shortstop, Brue hit .366 with seven doubles, three home runs, 34 runs scored and 12 RBIs. She was an unanimous selection to the LTC All-Conference squad.

Maggie Carpenter

Freshman, Seneca

Carpenter hit .306 with 27 RBIs at the plate and went 18-3 with a 2.67 ERA in the circle. She was selected to the I-8 North Division All-Conference squad and was an ICA Class 2A Third Team pick.

Emily Friese

Junior, WFC

Friese batted .426 with 17 runs scored, a home run and 22 RBIs. She also posted an ERA of 1.45 in 30 1/3 innings in the circle. Friese was a All-TCC First Team honoree and an ICA Class 2A Third Team pick.

Molly Harris

Junior, Ottawa

Harris hit .314 with six doubles, eight home runs, 41 RBIs and 25 runs scored for the Lady Pirates. She was a Northern Illinois Big 12 West Division Honorable Mention selection.

Emily Hook

Junior, Serena

Hook batted .426 with six doubles, two triples and four home runs for the Lady Huskers. She also had 29 RBIs and scored 19 runs. Hook was named to the ICA Class 1A Third Team.

Elise Kane

Sophomore, WFC

Kane hit .379 with 34 runs scored, two home runs and 15 RBIs for the Warriors. She was a Tri-County Conference Honorable Mention selection.

Shea Moritz

Senior, WFC

Moritz batted .342 with 15 runs scored and 26 RBIs. She also went 6-5 with a 2.82 ERA in the circle, recording 70 strikeouts in 66 innings. Moritz was a All-TCC Second Team honoree.

Jenna Nink

Sophomore, Ottawa

Nink hit .368 with 10 doubles, five home runs, 13 RBIs and 11 stolen bases for the Lady Pirates. She was named to the All-NIB 12 Conference West Division First Team.

Shelby Peritore

Junior, Somonauk

Peritore batted .404 with 26 runs scored and 28 RBIs for the Lady Bobcats. She was named to the Little Ten All-Conference team for the third consecutive season and was an ICA Class 1A Third Team pick.

Jadyn Pickert

Sophomore, Earlville-Leland

Pickert hit .387 with 29 runs scored, nine doubles, three triples, a home run and 25 RBIs for the Raiders.

Grace Schmitz

Junior, Streator

Schmitz batted .412 with 12 doubles, six triples, 12 runs scored and 19 RBIs for the Lady Bulldogs.

Sophie Schomer

Sophomore, Newark

Schomer hit .333 with nine RBIs at the plate and went 18-6 with a 2.82 ERA in the circle for the Lady Norsemen. She fanned 148 batters in 139 innings. Schomer was a All-LTC selection as well as an ICA Class 1A Third Team honoree.

Megan Schwartz

Senior, Sandwich

Schwartz batted .358 with eight doubles, two triples, two home runs and 24 RBIs for the Lady Indians. She was named to the I-8 North Division All-Conference First Team.

Katy Tripp

Freshman, Somonauk

Tripp hit a solid .429 with 41 runs scored, two doubles and 15 RBIs for the Lady Bobcats. She was also a perfect 13-of-13 in stolen base attempts.

THIRD TEAM

Maddie Barichello

Sophomore, Streator

Barichello batted .320 with eight doubles and 19 RBIs for the Lady Bulldogs.

Brianna Engel

Senior, Serena

Engel hit .296 with nine RBIs and went 9-8 with an ERA of 3.68, fanning 157 in 110 1/3 innings for the Lady Huskers. She was a repeat All-LTC honoree.

Britney Helms

Senior, Seneca

Helms batted .360 with 24 runs scored, 14 RBIs and 25 stolen bases for the Lady Irish.

Joslyn Hopkins

Senior, Paw Paw

Hopkins hit .490 with 19 runs scored and 22 RBIs. She also fanned 41 in 67 innings in the circle.

Audrey Jenkins

Freshman, WFC

Jenkins batted .341 with 33 runs scored, three home runs and 21 RBIs. She was a All-TCC Honorable Mention pick.

Kylie Kindermann

Senior, WFC

Kindermann hit .371 with 13 runs scored and 24 RBIs for the Warriors. She was a All-TCC First Team honoree.

Makena McConnaughhay

Senior, Marquette Academy

McConnaughhay batted .338 with eight doubles, three homers and 18 RBIs. She was a All-TCC Second Team selection.

Haley Michael

Senior, Earlville-Leland

Michael hit .355 with 18 RBIs and went 9-5 with a 2.89 ERA, recording 51 strikeouts in 75 innings of work.

Julia Niles

Junior, Earlville-Leland

Niles batted .372 with nine doubles, 28 runs scored and 23 RBIs for the Raiders.

Emily Schofield

Freshman, Newark

Schofield hit .417 with 19 runs scored and 13 RBIs for the Lady Norsemen.

Kylie Shannon

Senior, Serena

Shannon batted .433 with three doubles, two triples, 26 runs scored and 12 RBIs for the Lady Huskers. She was an unanimous All-LTC selection.

Bailey Simpson

Senior, Ottawa

Simpson hit .317 with five doubles, a triple, 10 runs scored and 16 RBIs for the Lady Pirates. She was a NIB 12 All-Conference First Team honoree.

Becca Sweeney

Senior, Newark

Sweeney batted .370 with 15 runs scored, two home runs and 27 RBIs. She was a repeat selection to the All-LTC All-Conference squad.

Alivia Tjaden

Junior, Fieldcrest

Tjaden hit .379 with nine doubles, seven runs scored and 12 RBIs. She was a All-Heart of Illinois Conference Second Team pick.
