Jurors selected in Andersen trial

On Monday, jury selection for the trial of Clifford A. Andersen Jr. began, and as of midday Tuesday, jurors had been seated.

Three hundred questionnaires were sent out to prospective jurors. Because of the small size of Putnam County, the shocking nature of the crime, and the more than 85 witnesses expected to be called to the stand, the court was initially concerned about being able to seat a local jury.

Andersen, 68, of Standard, is charged with killing his sister-in-law, Deborah Dewey, and concealing her body. Dewey, 62, of Ladd, was reported missing in August 2016. Her body was found on Sept. 12, 2016, in a shallow grave in a yard of a Standard home for which Andersen was caretaker.
