Richard D. Quantz

SHERIDAN — Richard D. Quantz, 65, of rural Sheridan, passed Saturday afternoon, July 7, at Rush-Copley Medical Center.

Richard was born Oct. 30, 1952, in Aurora, to James and Daphne (Dubson) Quantz. He was joined in marriage to Jacqueline Graff on Jan. 31, 1981, in Naperville.

He had served in the U.S. Navy from December 1972 to December 1976 aboard the USS Carrier Enterprise and was very proud of becoming a Shellback by crossing the equator. He was a member of the USS Enterprise (CVAN/CVN-65) Association and a member of the VFW at large.

He worked 32 years for the Illinois Department of Transportation out of the Naperville and Yorkville yards in highway maintenance until his retirement in 2002.

He loved being a terrific grandfather and playmate to his grandchildren, helping his neighbors and friends, tinkering, woodworking and model assembly.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; his parents, James and Daphne Quantz, of Newark; his two children, Kathryn Dlugolecki, of Aurora, and Erin (Bobby) Widner, of Yorkville; two grandchildren, Hayden and Emaree; a brother, Tom Quantz, of Montgomery; two sisters, Linda Burson, of Hinckley, and Mary (Roger) Clark, of Warrenville; and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 16, at Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home in Sheridan.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60601.
