Streaks 2nd at state, advance to Coldwater

The 16U Ottawa K of C Streaks brought home a second-place finish in the AABC Mickey Mantle Wood Bat State Tournament to qualify for the Mid-America Regional starting Thursday in Coldwater, Mich. The Streaks open at 10 a.m. Eastern Time against Lumen Christi (Mich.).

In their opening-round game, Ottawa defeated Niles 5-2 behind a seven-strikeout performance by Shane Reynolds (6 1/3 IP, 3H, 3BB). Jace Addis had two hits to lead the Streaks offensively, while Luke Couch and Jake Thomas each singled.

The Streaks then dropped an 8-5 decision to Midwest Future Prospects. Reynolds had two hits, while Jalen Flavel, Addis (triple, two RBIs) and Thomas (RBI) each added a hit. Couch suffered the loss in relief of Bryce Jones (5 1/3, IP, 9 K, 4 BB, 1 H).

In the losers’ bracket, a rematch saw the Streaks defeat Niles 5-4. Reynolds (double, two RBIs) had two hits to once again lead the offense while, Nick Melvin, Flavel, Jay Scott and Grant Waldron each had hits. Waldron went the distance on the mound to earn the win.

The win boosted the Streaks into the championship game, where they dropped an 8-0 decision to Midwest Future Prospects. Melvin, Flavel, Reynolds and Caden Ericzon each had hits for the Streaks. Addis (5 IP, 3K, 4ER) suffered the loss.

In 10U competition at Oglesby — Oglesby 15, Streator 5 (Streator moves to the playback bracket Thursday vs. Peru); Peru 8, Ottawa American 7 (Ottawa American eliminated).

In 12U play at La Salle — Ottawa National 17, Mendota 0 (Ottawa remains in winners' bracket, faces also-unbeaten Oglesby at 6 p.m. Friday); Oglesby 10, Spring Valley 8.
