Minooka man charged with 1st-degree murder of baby

Suspect admitted in police interview to throwing baby to stop its crying

A Minooka man was charged with first-degree murder Friday after the death of a 3-week-old baby.

In a news release, Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer reported that police were called at 12:24 p.m. Friday to the apartment residence of Nicholas A. Fecarota, 18, in Minooka.

“After life-saving attempts were made by officers, the baby was transported by ambulance to Morris Hospital,” according to the release. “The baby was pronounced dead shortly after 1:20 p.m.

“Detectives from the Will/Grundy Major Crimes Task Force was notified to assist our agency after preliminary investigation revealed a fracture to the baby’s skull,” according the release. “When Mr. Fecarota was interviewed, he admitted to throwing the baby multiple times to stop the baby from crying.”

Fecarota currently is being held in Grundy County jail.

The news release thanked members of the Will/Grundy Major Crimes Task Force and Minooka Police Department. and expressed condolences to the family.

Grundy County Coroner John Callahan released a statement Saturday morning stating an examination took place Friday night and more details would be released next week.
