AREA ROUNDUP: First-half goals lift Bulldogs over L-P

LA SALLE — A goal by Nate Carby at a little under the midway point of the first half broke a 1-1 tie and sent the Streator High School soccer team on to a 3-1 victory over host and former NCIC rival La Salle-Peru here at the L-P Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

Down 1-0, Alex Angelico scored on a penalty kick to tie the score at 1-1 before Carby untied it in the 26th minute. The score stayed that way until Jacob Russow added an insurance goal off assists from Angelico and Mason Telford with five minutes remaining, locking up the win for the Bulldogs (14-8).

"Alex and Mason had one of their better games this year," said SHS coach Jim Muntz. "We also saw strong play defensively from Greg Rashid and Tristin Paul and I also thought our bench gave us a big lift tonight with quality minutes."
