AREA ROUNDUP: Newark selling state finals tickets starting today

NEWARK — Tickets for this weekend's IHSA Class 1A State semifinals and finals will go on sale starting Monday morning in the student center at Newark High School.

The conference, regional and sectional champion Lady Norsemen are scheduled to open play at Normal's Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State University this coming Friday with a 9 a.m. semifinal matchup against Grayville. The state championship game and third-place match will be played Saturday morning.

Tickets — which are $8 apiece and limited to 10 per family — go on sale Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. for varsity players and parents; 8:30 a.m. for underclass players and parents; 9:30 a.m. for boosters, Board members, faculty and staff; 11 a.m. for other students; and 1 p.m. for the general public. Tickets will also be sold Tuesday from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Carl Sandburg def. IVCC 3-0

In Region IV Tournament play, IVCC defeated Bryant and Stratton College 3-1 led by Jenna Lusietto's 14 kills, Jessica Garber's 29 assists and 13 digs from Melissa Trilikis.

The Lady Eagles then fell in straight sets to Carl Sandburg despite Lusietto's 10 kills, Garber's 27 assists and 19 digs courtesy of Riley Johnson.

Morton 65, IVCC 54

At Oglesby, the host Lady Eagles trailed throughout but were defeated despite 17 points from Maddie Dougherty, 13 from Gena Fassino, eight from Lexi Marx and six apiece courtesy of Haylie Barrera and Emily Cook.
