La Salle County's insurance carrier will no longer pick up former State's Attorney Brian Towne's legal bill in a lawsuit filed against him by a Peru lawyer.
Julie Ajster sued Towne in February in Chicago federal court, saying Towne, while he was state's attorney in 2015, brought a false perjury charge against her and listened to and recorded her telephone conversation without a proper warrant. The perjury charge was eventually dismissed.
At a court hearing Wednesday, Towne's attorney said La Salle County's liability insurer is no longer covering Towne's legal costs in fighting the suit. The next hearing is Wednesday, Nov. 28.
In September, a federal judge turned down Towne's motion to throw out the suit.
Ajster also sued Peru police in connection with the eavesdropping; in September, Peru agreed to pay Ajster an $8,200 settlement.
