Marquette 6th-grade girls hoops fall twice in tourney

The Marquette Academy sixth-grade girls basketball team lost 24-17 to Rockford Eisenhower and 19-15 to Woodland at the recently-held Saunemin Tournament. Against Eisenhower, Avery Durdan had 10 and Alyssa Zellers six points for the Lady Knights, while verses Woodland, Durdan scored seven with Zellers and Kealey Rick netted four points each.

Ottawa Dolphins 2nd at Lucky Duck

The Ottawa Dolphins swim team placed second of the eight teams competing at the 6th annual Lucky Duck Invitational held at the Rock River YMCA on Sunday.

Champions of the meet included Lucas Farabaugh (10U - 50-yard free style, 50-yard backstroke); Adam Swanson (10U - 50 butterfly); Cole Bressendorf (6U - 25 backstroke); Addisyn Budnick (8U - 25 backstroke) and Kallyn Jobst (8U - 25 freestyle). The Dolphins had nine swimmers — Bressendorf, Budnick, Cici Burke, Gavin Crysler, Ethan Farabaugh, Henry Farabaugh, Lily Miller, Adalynn Muller and James Threadgill — all record personal-best times in their respective events.

Shepherd boys top Parkside and Sandwich

The Shepherd seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball teams both defeated Peru Parkside. The seventh-grade Rams (2-2) won 37-23 with Jack Henson and Garrett Shymanski (12 rebounds) each scoring 10 points each and Drake Kaufman adding six markers. The eighth-grade Rams (2-1) won 36-26 led by nine points from Levi Sheehan and seven points apiece by Ryan Chamberlain and Aiden Mucci.

Against Sandwich, the seventh-graders won 42-15 behind Alex Billings' seven points, Luke Connell's six points and Kaufmann five points, and the eighth-graders used a 25-3 fourth-quarter advantage for a 52-46 triumph. Dillan Quatrano led the way with 22 points, Levi Sheehan 10 and Jonathan Cooper seven.

Shepherd girls basketball defeats Plano

Against Plano recently, the Shepherd seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball teams were victorious. The Lady Rams seventh-graders picked up a 38-2 win, led by 10 points from Hannah Waddell, six each from Sky Fowler and Cheyanne Joachim and five by Emma Cushing.

The Lady Rams eighth-graders (17-2) earned a 41-6 victory with Brynne Sember recording 13 points and six rebounds, Michaela Froisland 11 points, Kelcie DeMoss 10 points and five rebounds, and Ryleigh Stehl six points.

Northlawn seventh-grade boys hoops triumph over La Salle

The Northlawn seventh-grade boys basketball team defeated La Salle 44-26. Christian Benning led the Panthers with 13 points, while Logan Aukland had 10 points, Noah Camp eight points and six boards, and Cade Peterson six points in a balanced effort for Northlawn.

Woodland boys basketball wins over RSM

In fifth- and sixth-grade boys basketball action, Woodland's teams both picked up victories over Ransom-St. Michael. The fifth-graders won 24-13 led by Noah Decker with eight points and Koltin Highland six, and the sixth-graders 22-14. In that one, Nick Plesko, Connor Decker and Connor Dodge posted six points each.
