OTTAWA — Rosmary S. Ahearn, 96, of Ottawa, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, at Ottawa Pavilion surrounded by her loving family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at St. Columba Church with the Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at Ottawa Funeral Home with the rosary recited at 2:45 p.m. by the Catholic Daughters.

Rosmary was born Jan. 15, 1922, in Ottawa, to Daniel J. and Margaret (Murry) Ahearn.

Rosmary was a lifelong teacher, beginning at Sheridan Grade School and then moving to Grand Ridge Grade School where she taught first grade for most of her career. Rosmary was also a volunteer teacher for Aitken School in Utica with her sister, Cecelia Revell, following their retirements.

Rosmary was a lifelong member of St. Columba Church, where she was a Eucharist minister, a CCD teacher for over 40 years, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and a volunteer at the school library. Rosmary organized and led the Sacred Heart Pilgrimage in Ottawa for many years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and La Salle County Retired Teachers’ Association.

Family was very important to Rosmary and she kept the family connected, hosting the Ahearn Christmas dinner at her house every year.

Rosmary is survived by her sister, Irene (late Frank) Cali; her brother, Murry (Elsie) Ahearn; her nieces and nephews, Frank Cali, Joseph (Melody) Ahearn, Michael (Mary Lynn) Ahearn, Janet (Daniel) Heider, Carole (David) Scheuer, Andrea Meyer (Bob Beguin), Susan (James) Spence, Thomas (Mary Jo) Ahearn, Dennis (Dawn) Ahearn and Terry (Jennifer) Ahearn; and numerous great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Rosmary was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Daniel (Elinor) Ahearn; her sister, Cecelia (Adrian) Revell; and two nephews, David Revell and Phillip Ahearn.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

Memorials may be directed to St. Columba Church.
