FLASHBACK: Ottawa filling station

This former gas station — in those days called a filling station — operated on Norris Drive in Ottawa, across from the waterworks. Bill Buckingham, who submitted the photo, estimates the image is from the late 1930s. At that time, the station was run by Joe Zeelenberg (far right). Zeelenberg immigrated to the U.S. from Holland. The station served food, such as hamburgers and barbecue. In later years, Buckingham said his father, Laverne Buckingham, ran the filling station.
