A court hearing took place Wednesday in the case of two La Salle County deputy auditors charged with stealing overtime pay.
Tori L. Artman and Pamela Wright were charged in September with accepting pay for overtime work they did not do, totaling $3,031. County Auditor Jody Wilkinson is charged with facilitating the alleged scheme.
Artman and Wright are both defended by Mendota lawyer Todd Martin. However, prosecutors want Martin removed from the case, because he was assistant state's attorney during part of the time the allegedly unearned overtime pay was taken. In the prosecution's view, there is a possible conflict of interest for Martin to be defense attorney.
Prosecutor Jeremiah Adams said Wednesday in court the issue is being hashed out, asking for a status hearing Friday, Jan. 25. Martin agreed with the request and Circuit Judge Cynthia Raccuglia accordingly set a hearing for that date.
Wilkinson is defended by Ottawa lawyer Joseph Navarro.
