Man dies after fall from billboard near Marseilles

Man was working at time of incident

A man died Saturday afternoon after falling 30 feet from a billboard between Ottawa and Marseilles.

The man, who was working for a billboard company out of Effingham, has not been identified.

Marseilles firefighters received the call after 1 p.m. at 2050 North 30th Road, which is in the middle of a cornfield, about a quarter mile south of Interstate 80.

The man was accompanied by a co-worker, said Marseilles Fire Chief Mick Garrison. The co-worker believes the man lost his footing and was caught up in the 10 mph winds.

A Life Flight was called and CPR was performed on the man at the scene, Garrison said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the La Salle County Coroner's Office.

The coroner will handle releasing more information on the incident.
