Q. I own a house in Streator. Am I required to salt the public sidewalk in front of my house when it's icy?
A. Yes. City ordinance requires homeowners and residents to remove ice and snow from the public sidewalks adjacent to their property. In the event ice cannot be removed, city code requires residents to sprinkle "sand, salt or other suitable substance in such a manner as to prevent the ice or snow from being hazardous to pedestrian traffic until such time that it can be removed, and then it shall be promptly removed."
