St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Earlville was the scene of the most important date in the last half century for our family. June 28, 1969, was the date of the marriage of Gene Potter of Sheridan and Mary Ellen Hill of Leland. Matron of Honor was Joyce Walker, sister of the bride. Bridesmaid was friend Anita Knippen. Best Man was the late Ed Wade, classmate of the groom, and Groomsman was friend Tony Amelianovich. Flower Girl was Diane Potter, niece. Ring Bearer was Brad Troutman, nephew.
Parents of the bride were the late Armand and Katherine Hill of Leland. Parents of the groom were ther late John and Ruth Potter of Sheridan. The couple are the proud parents of three sons: Christopher (Michelle) of Oakbrook, Andrew (Mary) of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Matthew (Korrine) of Oswego. They also have five precious grandchildren (ages 4 to 16 years): Isaac and Hannah Potter from Oswego; Kayla, Colin, and Drew Potter from Marshalltown, Iowa.
Gene is retired from LaSalle County Farm Supply and the Illinois National Guard facility in Marseilles. Mary Ellen retired as a nurse from the LaSalle County Health Department. The couple resides in rural Sheridan. The family plans a cruise to Alaska this summer for all these family members.
