Isaac Gassman has decided to trade in his Illinois State University Red for Grand Valley State University Blue.
Gassman, a 2016 Ottawa High School graduate and two-time recipient of The Times Boys Basketball Player of the Year award, is transferring from ISU to GVSU, it was initially announced Sunday night on the GVSU men's basketball Twitter account, and then confirmed by Lakers head coach Ric Wesley on Monday night.
Grand Valley State, located in Allendale, Mich., is an NCAA Division II affiliate. Last season, the Lakers qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
Gassman, who will have two years of eligibility, appeared in 58 games for the Redbirds the past two seasons. During his two-year stint at the Division I level, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 3.5 points per game — knocking down nearly 40% of his shots from 3-point range — in almost 15 minutes of action per game.
A more in-depth story on Gassman's decision will appear in a future edition of The Times.
