5 businesses sold alcohol to minors

Illinois State Police conducted alcohol countermeasure enforcement

Five area businesses sold alcohol to minors during an Illinois State Police Alcohol Counter Measure Enforcement surveillance last month.

Diaz Grocery Store employee Blanca N. Medellin, 28, of Mendota; Waterfalls Bar employee Jessica L. Robinson, 28, of Mendota; Coal Mine 351 Bar employee Colleen M. Wall, 55, of Oglesby; Aces & Eights Inc. employee Margaret L. Johnson, 25, of Oglesby; and CVS Pharmacy employee Cory M. Helson, 43, of Peru, were all cited on a complaint of unlawful delivery of alcoholic liquor to a minor. The charge is a Class A misdemeanor.

The five employees were all released with a court date.

Illinois State Police said 24 locations were checked in La Salle, Mendota, Oglesby, Peru and Tonica, according to a press release.

The purpose of the surveillance is to determine which businesses may be selling alcoholic beverages to minors and was funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation's Division of Traffic Safety.
