Shepherd baseball splits its opening two games of the season

The Shepherd seventh- and eighth-grade baseball team fell to Morris 3-0, but rebounded to top Fieldcrest 5-3 in its first two games of the campaign. In the defeat to Morris, Jack Henson and Julian Alexander doubled, Turner Love added a single and starting pitcher Ryan Peterson allowed just one hit, an earned run and struck out six in four innings. In the victory over Fieldcrest, Garrett Cupples singled and doubled with Alexander posting a base hit.

Shepherd softball goes 3-1 on the week

The Shepherd softball team defeated Putnam County 9-7 with Peyton Bryson striking out six in a complete-game victory in the circle, Marlie Orlandi (double, two RBIs) posting three hits and Hailey Larsen (double, three RBIs) adding a pair of hits.

The Lady Rams then topped Mendota Holy Cross 8-7 in the opening game of a twinbill, Bryson fanning four and collecting a pair of hits and RBIs in a winning effort with Sophie Fernandez adding a single, double and pair of RBIs. In a 13-3 loss in Game 2, Larsen (three RBIs) doubled twice, while Orlandi had a pair of singles.

Shepherd then defeated Peru Parkside 6-1, Bryson with a complete-game, five-hitter with five strikeouts, while Payton Nodland (RBI), Rylee O'Fallon (double, RBI) and Larsen (two RBIs) posted two hits each.

Serena shuts out Trinity Catholic

The Serena Middle School softball team used a 10-strikeout, complete-game one-hitter from Maddie Glade to defeat Trinity 5-0. Harlee O'Dell paced the Lady Huskers offense with a 3-for-3 day, including a double and RBI.
