Star Union Spirits, a Peru distillery, is changing up its business to help the nationwide battle against COVID-19.
In an effort to help address reported shortages of available medical supplies to organizations battling the pandemic on the frontlines, Star Union Spirits is shifting from its usual production of alcohol to produce hand sanitizer for hospitals, police, fire, first responders and other safety-net organizations across La Salle County.
"Our goal is to produce as much as we can for the organizations in greatest need," a press release from the company said, "and distribute the sanitizer where needed most. We're working closely with state and local leaders in both public and private sectors to identify those areas where we can provide the most impact.
"Our current efforts are focused solely on production for these essential groups, although we are hopeful that there may eventually be a public-facing program that helps others in the community in need."
