The end of summer means the start of a new school year. Illinois Valley Community College offers these tips for getting back in the school groove:
1. Create healthy habits and structure as you begin a new routine
As the school year gets underway, it's important to get enough rest. To that end, follow a consistent bedtime routine that includes getting at least eight hours of sleep each night. Other healthy habits to adopt include exercise, meditation, eating nutritious foods, and using a planner to stay on top of deadlines. IVCC students are also encouraged to use the wellness portal, which can be found at https://you.ivcc.edu/.
2. Explore student resources
Illinois Valley Community College offers both academic and personal support services to help students succeed. For more information about those resources, visit https://www.ivcc.edu/iamaan/ivccstudent/.
3. Connect with a counselor to discuss course and career options
Not sure which career path to pursue for your future? Or do you know what you would like to do but aren’t sure which courses you need to take, or what degree do you need to earn? The IVCC Counseling Center can help. Call (815) 224-0360 or email email@example.com to set up an appointment.
4. Save and review your course syllabi
Reading and understanding the syllabus for a course is key to student success. Not only is it a great way to connect with your instructor, but it can also help you understand their expectations.
5. Join a student organization
Looking for a way to get involved? IVCC offers more than 40 clubs and organizations in which to participate. For more information, visit https://www.ivcc.edu/studentactivities/clubs_and_organizations.php. Students are encouraged to connect with the advisor listed under the group of interest.
